Music and Movement: Our Music and Movement room gets a lot of use! All of our students practice music and movement in our Music Together program. Our 3 and 4 year olds participate in a weekly yoga class, taught by a certified child yoga instructor. When it's too cold to go outside, all of our classes do organized movement and games in our Music and Movement room as well.
Plants in the Classroom: We aerate our rooms with fresh air whenever possible. Plants are grown in the classrooms to promote healthy indoor air quality. The students raise seedlings to transplant to home. Our students care for our indoor plants as part of their daily classroom jobs.
Healthy Schools initiative: Our school has officially taken the pledge for the national Healthy Schools initiative and we practice it school wide with our policy and procedures. Families are educated about how to pack a healthy snack and lunch for their child. Sugary snacks are replaced with healthy choices for class parties and holidays. Healthy alternatives to birthday treats are promoted, including bringing a healthy snack for the class or donating a book to the classroom. Parents are informed about healthy choices at our September Back to School Night through a hand-out and discussion.

Green Snacks: We keep a supply of reusable and washable serving utensils and dishware for adult use at snack time. We are not permitted to extend reusable utensils and dishware to our students but we are promoting “Green Lunches”. This is an educational initiative to our parents about how to pack a school lunch that is reusable and healthy for the child and the environment. As part of this, our students make cloth napkins that they personalized with fish-prints, and then carry in their lunch bags instead of napkins.
Bike Riding: We promote bike riding with all of our students in our riding toys lot, which is a coned-off area of our parking lot. We teach bike and helmet safety with our annual Trike-a-thon fundraiser for St. Jude's Hospital, held at Downs Park.
Movement During School! School is often held outdoors for all of our classes. We want our students to explore their environment in all types of weather! All of our teachers involve movement in the curriculum and encourage our children to PLAY!
Hiking: Our parents created a trail through the woods by our school for our students to use during class. All of our students enjoy exploring nature along our hiking trail!
